The Rafa Nadal Foundation is pleased to announce the winning projects of the 3rd Rafa Nadal Foundation Awards, an initiative sponsored by Telefónica that aims to support non-profit organizations working to improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups. Through this initiative, the Foundation reaffirms its strong commitment to society and its support for those striving to create positive change in various areas.

This year, the awards recognized five categories, with the following winning projects:

  1. Sport and Education: Projects aimed at improving the quality of life for socially excluded groups through sports and education.
    • Fundación Soñar Despierto: A project providing educational and emotional support to children in foster care, promoting values-based education through inclusive leisure and sports activities, enhancing social skills, and fostering strong connections through volunteer support.
  2. Environmental Action: Initiatives dedicated to the regeneration, preservation, and conservation of natural environments, including their flora and fauna.
    • Fundación Privada Integra Pirineus: This project creates job opportunities for people at risk of social exclusion, particularly those with intellectual disabilities or mental health disorders, through sustainable forest management in the Pyrenees.
  3. Health and Well-being: Projects that improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups affected by physical, mental, or intellectual disabilities or illnesses.
    • Fundación Canis Majoris: A social intervention project focused on supporting the mental health of patients in psychiatric hospital units through therapy assisted by dogs.
  4. Social Innovation: Projects that address previously unmet needs or introduce disruptive innovations in existing areas.
    • ASPAYM Castilla y León: A project promoting inclusion and equal opportunities by integrating students with special needs into inclusive, respectful educational environments. It also fosters educational innovation through the use of 3D printing technology to create personalized support tools.
  5. Development Cooperation: Initiatives that create opportunities to reduce poverty and combat inequality in underdeveloped countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
    • Fundación Pablo Horstmann: A project aimed at improving maternal and child health in the slums of Nairobi, offering pediatric care, prenatal services, nutritional support, and medical referrals, ensuring free, high-quality healthcare for women and children.

Additionally, the Fit for Life Special Recognition, in collaboration with UNESCO, will be awarded to an influential figure in sports and social impact who shares the Rafa Nadal Foundation’s values and promotes a healthy lifestyle. This year, the award goes to Aauri Bokesa, an elite 400-meter runner. Beyond her successful athletic career, Aauri is a strong advocate for equality and healthy habits, particularly among youth. Committed to social inclusion, she works tirelessly to inspire future generations, promoting an active, healthy lifestyle as a tool for personal growth and resilience.

The awards ceremony will take place on March 27 in Mallorca, celebrating the achievements of the awardees with the presence of Rafael Nadal, former tennis player and founding trustee of the Rafa Nadal Foundation, representatives from Telefónica, and Gabriela Ramos, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences.

With Telefónica’s support, the Rafa Nadal Foundation has allocated a total of €225,000 to this initiative over three editions, awarding €15,000 to each winning project. This support is part of an ongoing effort to assist organizations working to improve the lives of vulnerable people, responding to hundreds of requests received each year.

Congratulations to the winners and thank you for your work in building a better world!

Initiatives like these are of great importance to the Rafa Nadal Foundation as they not only support organizations in diverse fields but also complement our mission, making a significant difference in the lives of many people.
