KRAJICEK FOUNDATION VISITS THE RAFA NADAL FOUNDATION CENTRE IN PALMA TO EXCHANGE EXPERIENCES AND BEST PRACTICES

On 24 November, the team from the Krajicek Foundation visited the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre in Palma for a day dedicated to sharing experiences and methodologies on how sport can be used as a driver of opportunities for children in vulnerable situations.

The Krajicek Foundation, based in the Netherlands, has been working since 1997 to provide children and young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods with safe, high-quality sports spaces —the so-called Krajicek Playgrounds— as well as educational and leadership programmes that promote social inclusion and personal development through physical activity.

The delegation was welcomed by José Antonio Ruiz, Deputy Director of the Rafa Nadal Foundation, and Eunate Gómez, Project Manager, together with the entire professional team of the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre in Palma.

Throughout the day, both organisations shared best practices and methodological approaches on how sport can become a tool for social transformation, especially in contexts where children and adolescents are at risk of exclusion. They also highlighted the importance of promoting safe and protective environments for children, where they can feel free, cared for, and confident to practise sports and take part in healthy leisure activities.

Following the institutional meeting, the Krajicek Foundation team had the opportunity to see first-hand the sports, educational, and psychosocial support activities that make up the comprehensive intervention carried out at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre. Visitors were able to observe the daily dynamics in which the minors participate and how the programme combines sports practice with educational reinforcement and emotional support to foster their overall development.

The visit served as an important first point of contact between both organisations, focused on sharing experiences and learning from one another about the use of sport as a development tool. This meeting reaffirmed their shared commitment to creating safe, healthy, and opportunity-rich environments for children.
