Biodiversity Detectives at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Valencia with Fundación Silbon

At the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Valencia, nature took center stage during a very special day of educational activities with children, organized in collaboration with Silbon and Silbon Foundation.

Under the theme “Biodiversity Detectives,” the main goal of the initiative was to encourage knowledge and protection of the natural environment, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15, which promotes life on land and the conservation of terrestrial ecosystems.

It was one of the three activities carried out at Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers thanks to the new sustainability alliance between the Rafa Nadal Foundation and Fundación Silbon.

Classroom and Sports Court Turned into Natural Spaces

The classroom and sports court were transformed into a scene full of mystery and learning. Illustrated cards representing different local plant and animal species were strategically placed, and the children were given the mission to find them, following clues and solving riddles to correctly identify each one.

This activity kept participants active and engaged, enhancing their observation, analysis, and teamwork skills, while discovering the natural richness of their own community. Educators took the opportunity to explain the crucial role that each species plays in maintaining ecosystem balance and the importance of respecting and caring for our environment.

Once the species were identified, the groups discussed their ecological significance. They came to understand that biodiversity encompasses not only the variety of plants and animals but also the interactions between them and how these affect the planet’s health.

Current issues such as habitat loss, climate change, and pollution — which threaten the survival of many species — were also discussed. This dialogue helped children and teens internalize the responsibility we all share in protecting biodiversity, starting with small daily actions.

The activity concluded with each group presenting concrete proposals to help conserve biodiversity. Ideas included creating school gardens, launching awareness campaigns in their neighborhoods, reducing plastic use, and taking care of green spaces.

These initiatives demonstrate that environmental education is not just about knowledge, but an active commitment that can lead to real positive change in society. The children showed great creativity and motivation to become agents of change — a hopeful sign for the future.

T-Shirt Design: Art and Creativity

To close the event, a t-shirt design workshop was held, where the children expressed their creativity through art. These designs will serve as the basis for next year’s summer course collection, as this year Silbon donated t-shirts, tote bags, and bracelets with an exclusive design inspired by the activities of the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers.

The joy and pride the participants felt when receiving these items further reinforced the positive impact of the day, turning the experience into a meaningful and lasting memory.

A Commitment to the Future

The day in Valencia demonstrated how playful and educational activities can transform children’s relationship with nature, inspiring them to act with responsibility and love for the planet.

This collaboration reaffirms the commitment of the Rafa Nadal Foundation and Fundación Silbon to sustainable education and to nurturing conscious citizens who value and protect biodiversity.
