Celebrating International Women’s Day at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers in Palma, Valencia, and Madrid

March 8th, International Women’s Day, is a key date to reflect on gender equality and the importance of continuing to build a future with equal opportunities for all. At the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers in Palma, Valencia, and Madrid, we have carried out various activities to raise awareness and highlight the role of women in society and sports.

Activities at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Palma

Throughout the week, children and teenagers have participated in initiatives focused on breaking down traditional gender roles and showcasing the role of women throughout history.

We had the special visit of three players from the Club Esportiu Algaida Women’s Team, a top-tier league team, including Nerea and Ainoa, two of the team’s professional players. They shared their personal experiences with the participants: what led them to play football, how their families reacted, and the obstacles they have overcome in their sports careers. The talk was an inspiring moment where the children got to understand the importance of perseverance and passion in sports. After the conversation, we organized mixed-gender football matches, promoting inclusion and respect in sports.

As every year, we planned to take part in the Cursa Palma Dona alongside children and families from the center, reaffirming our commitment to equality through sports. Unfortunately, the race was canceled due to bad weather, but all the participants were ready to give their best, proving that the sporting spirit and the fight for equality go beyond competition.

Throughout the week, we also organized a sports-themed treasure hunt where participants learned about great female figures in Spanish sports, such as Amaya Valdemoro, Garbiñe Muguruza, Alexia Putellas, the Handball Warriors, Lidia Valentín, Sandra Sánchez, and Almudena Cid. Through physical challenges and trivia about their achievements, they discovered the importance of female representation in elite sports and how these athletes have paved the way for future generations.

Activities at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Madrid

At the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Madrid, we dedicated a special day to reflecting on the role of women in history and in the daily lives of our boys and girls.

We carried out an activity called “Women in My Life,” where each participant spoke about an important woman in their life—whether a mother, sister, teacher, or friend—highlighting her impact on their development.

Additionally, we worked on raising awareness about female inventors, learning about their contributions to science and technology, and creating a collective mural representing some of them with illustrations and inspirational quotes.

With the teenage group, we delved deeper into the history of influential women who have made a significant impact on society, highlighting their importance and reflecting on the challenges that still exist in the fight for equality.

Activities at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Valencia

At the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Valencia, we used art as a tool for expression and awareness. We organized an activity where children painted flowers inspired by women who have played a significant role in their lives, allowing them to express their creativity to symbolize their importance.

Additionally, we designed an educational game where participants had to identify important women in history, aiming to reinforce their knowledge about their legacies and foster admiration for their achievements.

For the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers, this week has been a unique opportunity to focus our activities on the value of equality and the need to keep working towards building a fairer and more equitable world. Through sports, education, and art, we have created spaces for learning, reflection, and empowerment for our children and teenagers.

We believe in the power of sports and education as key tools to promote gender equity. We will continue working to inspire new generations and build a future where everyone has the same opportunities to grow and achieve their dreams.
