Christmas Family Day at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre in Valencia: Connecting Beyond Screens

Christmas Family Day at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre in Valencia: Connecting Beyond Screens

The Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre in Valencia hosted its Christmas Family Day, an initiative designed to strengthen the bond between children and adolescents and their families, while also creating a shared space for reflection on how we spend our time together in everyday life.

This event is part of the annual theme DALE AL PLAY, through which we promote mindful use of the digital environment and explore its impact on leisure, relationships and personal and family well-being.

At a time when screens increasingly dominate daily routines, the gathering focused on the importance of creating moments of genuine presence, where communication, participation and emotional connection can fully develop.

The day was conceived as an opportunity to pause, observe and become aware of the true value of shared time.

Throughout the event, various participatory activities were carried out. One of them invited families to compare different ways of spending time together, encouraging meaningful dialogue about how relationships, involvement and emotions change depending on whether activities take place with or without digital devices.

This exercise prompted reflection on key aspects such as the quality of interaction, communication, creativity, movement, group energy and the creation of shared memories.

Another highlight of the day was a space dedicated to setting family commitments: the Tree of Intentions. Through this symbolic activity, families expressed their willingness to continue nurturing a positive home environment and to prioritise quality time together, reinforcing the idea that these habits are built through conscious and shared decisions.

The day concluded in a warm and festive atmosphere with a traditional Christmas hot chocolate, fostering connections between families and the centre’s educational team and strengthening the sense of community that defines our project.

The high level of participation and the active involvement of both children and adults highlight the importance of continuing to promote initiatives of this kind.

Experiences like this reinforce our commitment to supporting families in the holistic development of children and adolescents, encouraging healthy relationships and responsible use of technology that always puts people at the centre.
