THE RAFA NADAL FOUNDATION JOINS THE DIGITAL MINORS PACT TO STRENGTHEN ITS COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING CHILDREN IN THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT

The Rafa Nadal Foundation has joined the Digital Minors Pact, an initiative promoted by UNICEF, Save the Children, Fundación ANAR, iCmedia, and the European Association for Digital Transition(AETD).
This pact brings together organizations committed to protecting children and adolescents in the digital environment, and promotes a set of consensus measures aimed at moving towards a State Pact that guarantees a safe, responsible, and healthy use of technology by minors.
Under the slogan “Protecting childhood and adolescence in the digital environment”, the Pact proposes concrete actions to address the main risks of the digital world, such as compulsive use of the internet and social networks, exposure to inappropriate content, online bullying, and associated mental health issues. Among its measures are education for responsible digital citizenship, regulation of age-appropriate digital product design, content access verification, and the strengthening of institutions responsible for protecting children’s rights.
The Rafa Nadal Foundation’s adherence to this Pact is part of its long-standing commitment to the protection and well-being of children and adolescents, a key pillar of its social mission. In this context, the Foundation has developed its own Child Protection Policy and a transversal programme called Safe Space, present across all its projects.
The Safe Space programme promotes violence-free environments and fosters awareness and training for professionals, governing bodies, and beneficiaries, with the aim of promoting and guaranteeing respect for the rights of children and adolescents. In addition, the Foundation has a Guideline for Action establishing protocols for potential risk situations, a Child Protection Committee responsible for ensuring proper implementation of measures, and a Protection Channel available to address concerns or receive reports confidentially. All these mechanisms reinforce a culture of protection and support that the Foundation considers essential for the comprehensive development of minors.
Furthermore, the Foundation highlights the power of sport as a transformative tool and the core of its educational and social work. Through sport, children develop healthy habits, strengthen their self-esteem, and learn values such as effort, cooperation, and respect. Sport also helps reduce stress and cortisol levels associated with excessive screen use, enhancing physical and emotional well-being. In an increasingly digital world, sport becomes a space for disconnection, enjoyment, and balance, essential for children’s holistic development.
“We want to help build a safer, more conscious, and more respectful digital environment for all minors, reducing excessive screen time and promoting physical activity through sport as a tool for well-being, growth, and education,” stated the Rafa Nadal Foundation team, emphasizing that this step is part of an integral vision aimed at ensuring the physical, emotional, and digital well-being of children and adolescents.
