Wheelchair Basketball: Promoting Inclusion at the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers in Madrid and Palma

At the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers in Palma and Madrid, we recently hosted two very special activities focused on wheelchair basketball, a sport that allows us to work on values such as empathy, respect, and inclusion, while also giving visibility to adapted sports.

On December 3rd, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we organized a session together with Club Baloncesto Estudiantes.

Children had the opportunity to experience playing basketball from a wheelchair, discovering firsthand the challenges and skills that this sport requires.

It was a very enriching activity that allowed us to raise awareness among young people about functional diversity and promote fundamental values such as empathy and respect for all people.

At the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Palma, this activity took place during Sports Week, a period in which all the center’s activities are aimed at promoting physical activity and healthy habits.

Thanks to the collaboration of Club Baloncesto Tramontana, children, adolescents, and their families were able to experience wheelchair basketball once again. This activity helps promote inclusion and allows young people to understand that everyone, with their different abilities, can enjoy sports.

At the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers, we work every day to give visibility to alternative and adapted sports, encouraging children to grow up aware of the reality of others and developing as empathetic and respectful individuals, understanding that everyone can engage in physical activity regardless of their abilities.

These activities remind us that sports are not only about fun and exercise but also a powerful tool to educate in values and build more inclusive societies.
